High Lizard -
I am sending you a CD with
pictures from the Fall Trip. The first few
pictures are from our Aborted attempt to hike up to Honeymoon Lake.
The out of shape Mr. Jones died about 2 miles (1,000 ft.) up the trail.
We then went to Red's Meadow Campground near Mammoth. Only about 8
other campers in the huge campground. We had a good time doing day
hikes. The next pictures are a day hike to Devils Post Pile and
Rainbow Falls (reminded me of the time we were in that huge storm and
ended up in the motel in Mammoth with the coed volleyball team). The
next set of pics are from a day hike to Shadow Lake - beautiful day
until we were harassed by a couple of ducks!!! Saw an eagle. That
evening we did a short hike to a lake where we saw a pair of Blue
Herron try their luck at fishing. The last photos are from a day hike
to Fern Lake. Mr. Jones had to turn back after a few miles, but I
finished the 12 mile loop. Shortly after I left Mr. Jones by the side
of the trail, I ran into a pair of hunters - with one of them carrying
a deer!!! They were the only people I saw on the entire 12 mile loop.
When I got to Fern Lake, it started to hail with thunder and
lightening. I toasted all the Lizards and the Great Guana, before
heading back to the campground. Mr. Jones had decided to head home
after I left him on the trail. I spent the last night partying with
nearby campers and sleeping under billions and billions of stars (the
other 2 nights Mr. Jones and I slept in the back of my 4-Runner due to
threat of rain). Turns out it was probably a good idea since a bear
visited our campsite the second night - huge paw prints on the bumper
of Mr. Jones' Subaru and on the picnic table.
